The collect prayer for Christ the king

God the Father, help us to hear the call of

Christ the King and to follow in his service,

whose kingdom has no end;

for he reigns with you and the

Holy Spirit, one God, one glory.

A Selection of Prayers for Various Occasions

A Thanksgiving

Blessed are you, Lord our God.

How sweet are your words to the taste,

sweeter than honey to the mouth.

How precious are your commands for my life,

more than the finest gold in my hands.

How marvellous is your will for the world,

unending is your love for the nations.

In particular at this time, I thank you for….

My voice shall sing of your promises

and my lips declare your praise

for ever and ever.  Amen.

For someone who is ill

Lord Jesus, we read in the gospel that you spoke individually to many people and said: “Be cured”;

“Get up and walk”;

“What do you want me to do for you?”;

 “Of course I want to cure you: be healed”;

“Let what you want be done for you”;

“Receive your sight”;

“Go, your son will live”;

“Go, your faith has saved you.”

Knowing that you are present in our midst, we ask you today to touch (name the person) and bring them your healing of body, mind and spirit. Amen.

For someone who is dying:

Eternal God,

grant to your servant (name)

and to us who surround him/her with our prayers

your peace beyond understanding.

Give us faith, the comfort of your presence,

and the words to say to one another and to you. Amen.

For someone who has died

Father, the death of (name) brings an emptiness into our lives.

We are separated from him/her and feel broken and disturbed.

Give us confidence that he/she is safe and his/her life complete with you,

and bring us together at the last

to the wholeness and fullness of your presence in heaven,

where your saints and angels enjoy you for ever and ever.  Amen.

Almighty God,

Father of all mercies and giver of all comfort:

deal graciously, we pray, with those who mourn,

that, casting all their care on you,

they may know the consolation of your love;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

A Prayer for Peace

Almighty God,

from whom all thoughts of truth and peace proceed:

kindle, we pray, in the hearts of all, the true love of peace

and guide with your pure and peaceable wisdom

those who take counsel for the nations of the earth

that in tranquillity your kingdom may go forward,

till the earth is filled with the knowledge of your love;

through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,

who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.  Amen.
